Felted Merino Scarf Taupe/Tangerine

Sunset, worn around the neck.

A soft mushroom-taupe canvas, crossed by sweeping loops of tangerine and deep rust that swing and overlap like the last streaks of light over Lake Como. The lines are bold but the base is calm, so it reads as warm and grown-up rather than loud. Turn it over and you'll find a cosy, curly pale-oatmeal reverse with faint peachy traces where the colour has worked its way through the wool.

This is Nuno felting, a slow, hands-on technique where fine layers of merino fibre are worked with warm water, soap and a great deal of patience until they bond into a single supple cloth. Handcrafted in Italy from 100% merino wool, every line is laid by hand, which is why no two scarves ever come out the same.

Wrap it once and let the ends cross at the front over a camel coat, tuck it into the neckline of a chocolate-brown knit, or throw it on with a denim jacket and ankle boots when autumn can't make up its mind. Warm colours, warm wool, warm compliments.

Please Note

Every one of these scarves is individually felted by hand. Variations in colour, texture and the flow of the felted lines are not imperfections but part of the beauty of the process. This scarf is the only one of its kind, which is rather the point. You're wearing the original, not a copy.

Care Note

Merino felted without chemical treatments likes to form little "pills" where it rubs. Think of them as a certificate of quality: they're proof of pure, untreated wool, and they lift off easily with a fabric shaver or lint remover. Dry cleaning is best. If you prefer, hand wash with a brief soak in cold water and a wool and silk detergent, press out the water gently (no wringing) and dry flat. Iron only if you really must, inside out and with extreme care.
